Media personality and entrepreneur Sbusiso “DJ Sbu” Leope is set to meet with potential investors and distributors, while in America next month to discuss export opportunities for his energy drink MoFaya.
“I will be flying to America in three weeks time to give a talk at Harvard Business College in Boston. But while I am there, I will also be meeting with people who are interested in MoFaya and introducing to communities in America,” DJ Sbu said.
He said that he was hopeful of finding a distributor in America, even if it meant that the product would only be available to a small community at first.
Sbu followed a similar strategy last year when he launched his energy drink in the United Kingdom.
“I launched MoFaya in London with the idea to only distribute it to a small community at first. We have been distributing it to the African community in London, because we saw that they were interested in the product, and it has really grown.
“In a few short months, we have gone from distributing one pallet of MoFaya a month to ten pallets at the moment. It is a slow growth but it is still growth,” Sbu said.
Sbu’s zealous efforts to promote his energy drink have often seen the star make headlines for “ambush marketing”. He was accused of hijacking an ANC rally in 2016 by promoting his energy drink at the event, and was also reported to have got several Kazier Chiefs footballers in trouble by having them pose with his energy drink on social media.
DJ Sbu was suspended and later fired from Metro FM in 2015 for promoting his energy drink at the station’s Metro FM Awards.
