6 people died while two others were seriously injured when a pick-up truck they were travelling in veered off the road and hit a tree along Esigodini-Falcon Road in Esigodini on Sunday evening.
Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said the two injured were taken to United Bulawayo Hospital where they are still admitted.
“A Nissan pickup was travelling along Esigodini-Falcon Road near Esigodini Business Centre with seven passengers on board. On approaching the 3km peg on the said road, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which veered off to the right and rammed a tree.
“Five passengers died on the spot and the other one died on admission at Esigodini District Hospital. Two other people were injured and are admitted at United Bulawayo Hospital,” she said.
She urged motorists to exercise caution when driving on the roads to avoid loss of lives.
Last month, 13 people died, including five family members, in separate road traffic accidents that were recorded during three days in Mvuma and Mvurwi.
Police said 10 people were seriously injured in the accidents.
