The Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) leader, Joice Mujuru’s rally in Ntabazinduna in Matabeleland North was blocked by police yesterday.
An urgent application to the Bulawayo High Court was not heard and the rally was history. Thousands of ZimPF supporters, who braved the searing heat, had already gathered awaiting results of the court application, but riot police closed off the venue.Court officials reportedly tossed Mujuru lawyers from one office to another until the rallies scheduled time lapsed.
The court’s’ attitude was blamed on the threats made by President Robert Mugabe, who accused the judiciary of sanctioning demonstrations, which turned violent.A dejected ZimPF lawyer, George Nyandoro said it was a sad day for him and his clients that the courts were not prepared to hear their case and tossed them from one room to another until the rally’s scheduled time lapsed.
ZimPF national co-ordinator, Dzikamai Mavhaire had to ask for police permission to apologise to the supporters after the rally flopped.
