An unidentified woman driver believed to be unlicensed and under the influence of alcohol fled the scene after she lost control of a speeding Honda Fit she was driving, and left it to crash into a Mutare Puma fuel, uprooting a fuel dispenser in the early hours of Wednesday this week.
Two passengers in the vehicle, who were injured were rushed to Mutare Provincial Hospital, but they apparently disappeared from their hospital beds when police made a follow up during investigations.
Vigilant Puma forecourt workers saved the day as they hurried to disconnect the smoking car battery that was about to ignite a flame in the badly damaged car, which could have lit the whole place up. Eye witnesses said the Honda Fit came speeding, headed for the service station. Upon realising that she had lost control of the vehicle, the driver reportedly jumped out of the moving car resulting in it ramming into the fuel dispenser.
The seemingly drunk driver took to her heels. She was however apprehended by the Puma.
