TOP designer David Tlale is looking forward to groom and mentor young up-and-coming designers.

Tlale doesn’t think he is the best, but is just a designer trying to do his best.

Tlale, with the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, is looking for hopeful designers to enter a competition.

The top five winning contestants will get a chance to show their designs at the Gauteng Premier’s Ball in November.David Tlale

Tlale said: “I’m a product of a competition.

“I had no one to hold my hand and show me the ropes and say this is what you do to establish yourself after winning a competition. I feel I have some insights to share.”

The young fashion designer competition is open to all designers who live in Gauteng.

They will have to submit design storyboards of their existing garments.

These young designers will be narrowed down to 50 who will then compete to make up the top 25.

And the 25 top designers will take part in a design marathon where they’ll be required to create five looks within a period of one week in October.

The designers will attend workshops in October where they will be exposed to everything fashion-related from make up to the business side of things,” Tlale said.

Only five designers will get a chance to show their work at the premier’s ball.

One winner will be chosen and will walk away with a three-month internship with Tlale and a platform to show his or her work at Fashion Week in October/November.

The work will appear under the umbrella: “The intern by David Tlale.”
